Man accused of rape and imprisonment

A man has been remanded in custody accused of raping and imprisoning a woman in Belfast.

Nahab Toufik faces four charges in connection with an alleged sex attack in the north of the city on 31 July.

The 38-year-old defendant, with an address at South Circular Road, Dublin, is accused of two counts of rape.

He is further charged with sexually assaulting and falsely imprisoning the woman.

A police officer told Belfast Magistrates' Court she could connect him with the alleged offences.

Mr Toufik's lawyer, Brian Archer, did not seek bail during the brief first appearance.

The accused was remanded in custody on Monday to appear again by video link in two week's time.
