Open Champion Darren Clarke has been awarded the freedom of the borough of Dungannon.

The 42-year-old golfer was presented with the honour at a ceremony in his hometown in County Tyrone.

Clarke won the 140th Open Championship at Sandwich, Kent in July.

One of the perks of being granted the freedom of the borough is that Clarke will now be able to herd sheep through Dungannon's streets.

In August councillors decided to honour Clarke for winning the Open Championship at the 20th attempt.

He won his first major title by three shots from Americans Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson at a windswept Royal St George's.
