Belfast man Matthew Ferris who drove over teenage girl cleared

A Belfast man who drove over a teenager has been cleared of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.

At Belfast Crown Court on Thursday, a jury of five men and seven women unanimously acquitted Matthew Ferris, 22, of Westland Way.

Earlier, the trial heard Mr Ferris was driving a car when a 19-year-old woman reached in and slapped him over an affair his aunt had with her father.

As he tried to drive off, she ended up trapped under a front wheel.

The woman suffered a fractured pelvis and vertebra. She had a heart attack and was revived at the scene.
