Toddler dies and his mother and brother rescued in Cork house fire

A two-year-old boy has died and his mother and four-year-old brother are in a serious condition after a fire at their home in Cork on Sunday morning.

They were asleep upstairs in the property at Elm Park in the Wilton area when the fire broke out in a downstairs room around 04:00 GMT.

Fire fighters had to use breathing apparatus to bring them out.

The were taken to Cork University Hospital where the two-year-old later died.

Gardai have begun an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
