Firefighter attacked with firework in Ballycastle

The Fire and Rescue Service has called on young people to think about the consequences of their actions after a firefighter was attacked in County Antrim.

A firework was thrown at the officer as his crew tackled a blaze in Ballycastle on Tuesday.

He was left shocked by the incident.

Assistant Group Commander David Hayburn said the incident could have been a lot worse.

"No-one can predict where a firework is going to end up, this youth threw it in the general direction of firefighters," he said.

"It could have exploded in this firefighter's face causing him permanent injury.

"He cauld have lost his eyesight and he could have lost his hearing permanently."
