Police have appealed for witnesses to an attack on a GAA referee last month to contact them.

Ray Matthews was taken to hospital after being assaulted at the end of an Antrim Under-21 championship semi-final game at Slemish Park in Ballymena.

Ten people associated with St Mary's Rasharkin GAC have been handed down various punishments as a result.

Three of the St Mary's team were sent off during the match against Lamh Dhearg on Saturday 29 October.

In a statement, police said: "At around 16:30 BST, it was reported that a male was assaulted by a large number of people after a sporting event in the area.

"The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to his injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police at Ballymena on 0845 600 8000.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
