Pensioner beaten in Newtownards as she helps injured men

A 70-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after she was attacked while coming to the aid of two men who had been assaulted by a gang.

Police said the pensioner was beaten up on Mark Street in Newtownards after 21:00 GMT on Sunday.

She was attempting to help two men, aged 43 and 19, who had been attacked near a house in the area.

All three victims were treated in hospital, but their injuries are not life-threatening.

Police believe three females and one male were behind the initial attack. The pensioner was assaulted by three men.

A 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested in relation to the incident.
