Man shot in legs in Londonderry gun attack

A man is recovering in hospital after he was shot by a gunman who escaped on a motorcycle in Londonderry.

The attack happened at Ballyarnett village shortly after 1830 GMT on Tuesday.

The man was shot once in both legs. He was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

People living close by said they were shocked by the shooting.

Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle, Raymond McCartney condemned the attack.

Cordons were in place around the man's home on Tuesday evening as police forensic officers examined the scene.
