A 51-year-old man has been arrested in Birmingham as part of a renewed investigation into the murder of an elderly woman in Belfast.

Margaret Telford, 68, was found strangled in her home at Twaddell Avenue in north Belfast on 4 February 1988.

No-one has ever been brought before the courts for her murder.

The case was reopened earlier this year. It followed a review by PSNI detectives.

Officers travelled to Birmingham on Monday and with the assistance of West Midlands Police arrested a 51-year-old man in the Aston area of the city.

The suspect has been brought back to Northern Ireland for questioning at the serious crime suite at Antrim police station.
