Three men and a woman arrested over an attack on a man at a barbecue in Londonderry five years ago have been released unconditionally.

Paul McCauley has never regained consciousness after the attack at Chapel Road in the Waterside in 2006.

The three men - aged 22, 42 and 49 - and the woman, aged 40, were arrested in the Fountain and Kilfennan areas of Derry on Tuesday.

Another 24-year-old man arrested in England remains in custody.

One man, Daryl Proctor, is serving a 12-year term for grievous bodily harm over the attack.

Police have said the investigation remains "active and ongoing".
