James MacNulty found guilty of raping girl

A former north Belfast community worker who admitted sexually abusing five girls over the space of a decade more than 30 years ago has been found guilty of raping one of them.

James MacNulty, 70, had previously pleaded guilty to 22 charges involving the girls, but had denied raping one of them.

He has already been placed on the sex offenders register.

MacNulty was remanded back into custody for sentence in the New Year.

On Thursday, a jury at Belfast Crown Court unanimously convicted him of raping the girl between December 1974 and January 1977.

In June, the pensioner admitted indecently assaulting and committing acts of gross indecency on the five girls between December 1970 and January 1981.
