Two men shot in leg in Londonderry

Two young men have been shot in an attack in Londonderry.

One of them, Ruairi Canning, is the nephew of Martin McGuinness. His father Marvin is facing charges over alleged dissident republican activity.

The shooting took place in High Park in the Creggan estate shortly after 19:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Both men were shot in the leg. They are understood to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Sinn Fein MLA for Foyle Martina Anderson said the shooting had angered people in the city.

"The PSNI is the only organisation that should be investigating and dealing with these matters," she said.

"The people of Derry support the peace process and the people who carried out that attack last night are out of touch with the mood and the views of the vast majority of the people."
