The man whose body was found at a disused hotel in Portstewart was Christopher Connor, 20, from Coleraine.

His body was discovered on Monday outside the Montague Arms Hotel in Church Street.

Local people have been leaving flowers in the area near the hotel on the town's promenade.

Part of Church Street is cordoned off and forensic experts are expected to continue their examination on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and police are continuing to make enquiries into the circumstances of Mr Connor's death.

The SDLP's Alderman Maura Hickey said the reaction of the community was one of "shock and horror".

Ms Hickey said young people in the area had been texting and using social networking to express their condolences.

"It is tragic that any family in the run-up to Christmas should find themselves with the loss of a young member at this particular time," she said.
