Trailer full of toxic sludge abandoned in Monaghan

Large amounts of toxic sludge from laundered diesel have been abandoned in a 40ft-trailer just across the border from south Armagh.

Traffic was diverted for a time on the N2 road in County Monaghan after the trailer with containers of fuel waste was left at the side of the road.

It was abandoned at Tullyvaragh some time between 22:00 GMT on Thursday and 06:00 GMT on Friday.

Gardai have appealed for information to contact them.

The sludge is a by-product of the process of removing marker dye from agricultural red diesel.
