Hijackers beat man with hammer in Coalisland

A man has been beaten over the head with a hammer during a car hijacking in Coalisland, County Tyrone.

He was in his car at Lisnastrane Heights on Christmas Eve when four men got out of a van, broke the windscreen of his car with a hammer.

They hit him on the head and stole his car.

A short time, later a group of men smashed windows in a house at Killary Lane, Stewartstown. They escaped in a car similar to the one that was stolen.

It was later found burned out.

The man who was attacked was taken to hospital. His injury is not thought to be life threatening.

Police have appeal for information.
