The police are investigating the cause of a fire at a disused factory in Kilkeel, County Down.

The blaze started at the former Toughglass plant on the Harbour Road around teatime on Wednesday.

It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control. The building was severely damaged.

Several families were moved from their homes while the operation was going on.

Firefighters from as far away as Lisburn and Portadown were sent to the fire.

They were hoisted up on a crane to spray water down into the interior of the factory where the fire started.
