A police spokesperson said a 21-year-old woman was walking on the viaduct path off New Street at about 21:20 GMT when a man approached her from behind.

The man demanded money and when she refused, he grabbed her arm, spun her round and punched her in the face.

The assailant was aged 35-40, 5ft 10in to 6ft, of medium build, and wearing a dark-coloured hat and coat.

The victim managed to run off down New Street.
