Chicago financial exchange to open in Belfast
Leading financial exchange CME Group is opening an office in Belfast.
CME Group began life as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, trading in commodities. It now specialises in futures trading, which is how big companies manage risk.
That means big financial bets on everything from the price of corn and oil, to the movement in stock exchanges and currencies.
The new Belfast office will open at the end of March.
The Chicago-based group already has a European headquarters in London, which employs 170 people.
There is no indication yet of the likely size of the Belfast operation. It will provide back-office technology support.
With the New York Stock Exchange technologies arm already located in Belfast, it is a prestigious addition to the city's inward investment profile.
