Ex-minister Spencer Gilchrist questioned about child sex offences

A former Church of Ireland minister is being questioned by police about child sex offences.

Spencer Gilchrist, 45, was given three years probation last year after admitting 22 charges of making indecent photographs of a child.

It is alleged that Gilchrist, formerly of Church Road, Kells, breached this probation order in October.

At Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, police were given three days to question him.

It is understood it concerns two allegations of sexual assault against a child.

He was remanded in custody.

After admitting the previous charges last March he was ordered to take part in a special treatment programme.

The terms of his probation order included Gilchrist not being allowed to make contact with anyone under the age of 18 years old.

The previous offences occurred on various dates between 2006 and 2009.
