One of Belfast's largest legal practices is to merge with the international law firm Pinsent Mason.

McGrigors employs around 100 people in Belfast.

McGrigors is based in Scotland and secured a major presence in NI two years ago when it merged with the Belfast firm of L'Estrange and Brett.

The new combined firm, which will operate under the name and brand of Pinsent Masons will employ over 2,500 people, including over 1,500 lawyers.

Paul McBride, a Partner at McGrigors in Belfast, said: "This is fantastic news for the firm and for our Northern Ireland clients."

"Over the past two years we have seen first-hand the benefits of being part of a wider UK network, creating new connections and opportunities for our clients.

"This deal will give us a greater level of international reach which will further enhance our ability to assist our clients, no matter where they are doing business."

McGrigors Belfast office is at Bridge Street in the city centre but the firm is understood to be looking for more modern offices.
