DUP mayor in Dublin for GAA semi-final

The DUP mayor of Ballymoney has travelled to Dublin to cheer on a local GAA team in the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship.

Ian Stevenson was in Parnell Park to watch Loughgiel win a place in the final.

In January, First Minister Peter Robinson, DUP, attended the Dr McKenna Cup final in Armagh.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said his attendance was "another little piece of history".

DUP colleague Gregory Campbell welcomed Mr Robinson's "symbolic gesture".

Mr Stevenson watched Loughgiel beat Na Piarsaigh from Limerick on Saturday.

A DUP spokesman said that over Mr Stevenson's year as mayor, he had sought to build community relations.
