Three arrested after police car rammed in Londonderry

Three men have been arrested in Londonderry following a cross-border incident on Wednesday morning.

At 09:30 GMT it was reported that a number of men had tried to gain access to a house in Carranbane Walk in Shantallow.

They then rammed a car parked at the property before driving off. A short time later a van collided with a PSNI car, causing extensive damage.

No one was injured in the collision.

It was later reported that the van had crossed the border and was involved in another collision with two garda vehicles which were responding to a request for assistance.

The van was finally stopped by PSNI officers on the Groarty Road and the three occupants arrested.

The men - aged 26, 32 and 33 - are assisting the PSNI with their inquiries.

The PSNI said that the Police Ombudsman has been notified of the incident.
