Police investigating the murder of a 16-year-old girl in Dublin earlier this month have arrested two men.

Melanie McCarthy McNamara, 16, was sitting in a car in Tallaght with three others at about 22:30 GMT on 7 February when a gunman drove up.

He fired at least once into the car shattering the window and hitting her in the head.

The two men - one in his early 20s, the other in his late teens - were arrested in Athy, County Kildare.

After the murder, police said they believed the girl may have been mistakenly targeted in a feud between families.

Her family said they wanted it to be known that she was never involved in anything and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
