Glenavy company fined £35,000 over bad smell

A County Antrim company has been fined for offensive odours

Ulster Farm By-Products, an animal rendering operation near Glenavy, was fined £35,000 plus court costs at the Lisburn Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The company pleaded guilty to seven offences associated with odours between 25 August 2010 and 28 February 2011.

The offences involved failure to use best techniques to control offensive odours, failure to properly store and handle blood, hides and carcasses.
