Woman tackles Simon Community home fire

Two people have escaped injury when they were rescued from a fire at a County Down community home.

Three fire crews were called to the Simon Community building on Bridge Street in Newry shortly after 02:00 GMT.

However, a staff member who tackled the blaze managed to extinguish the fire before the crews arrived. No-one was injured.

Her actions were praised by Station Commander Eugene McNally.
