Man in court on Belfast carjacking charges

A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with hijacking a car in Windsor Avenue, south Belfast, on Thursday and causing damage to the vehicle.

Diarmuid McKernan of Beechmount Parade in west Belfast spoke only to confirm that he understood the proceedings.

The charges include threatening the woman driver with a wheel brace, driving while disqualified, dangerous driving and damaging a police vehicle.

Mr McKernan was remanded in custody to appear in court in four weeks.
