Woman, 80, dies in three car crash in Crossgar

An 80-year-old woman has died following a three car crash in Crossgar, County Down.

The crash happened on the Downpatrick Road in the village shortly before 18:00 GMT on Friday.

A man and woman believed to be in the late 30s or early 40s have been taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

SDLP MP Margaret Ritchie said she had witnessed the scene after the crash.

"The accident took place about half a mile from my home and I happened upon it, along with others, on my way home from work," she said.

"I am deeply saddened by the news that an elderly lady has died following the accident and would wish to express my sympathies to her family, assuring them of my continuing thoughts and prayers."
