Pensioner dies after Newry road accident

A 70-year-old man has died following a one vehicle road accident in Newry.

The accident on the Armagh Road was reported in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man was taken to hospital, but died a short time later. No-one else was involved in the accident.

It follows the death of an 80-year-old woman in a three car crash in Crossgar, County Down, on Friday night. She was Frances Elizabeth McCready from the Downpatrick area.

The crash happened on the Downpatrick Road in the village shortly before 18:00 GMT on Friday.

A man and woman believed to be in the late 30s or early 40s were taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
