Woman dies after blaze in house
An elderly woman has died in a house fire in County Down.
Sadie Ferguson, 78, died after a blaze broke out at her house the Dundrum Road near Dromara just before 04:00 GMT on Tuesday.
A next door neighbour called the emergency services after his smoke alarm was set off by the fire. The pensioner was dead when crews arrived.
There has been extensive damage to the property. It is not yet clear how the fire started.
The emergency services are still at the scene but the road has been reopened.
The family living next door were able to get out of their house safely.
Station Commander Mark Maginnes said: "When the crews arrived the fire was very well developed.
"The heat was very, very intense and they knew that there was somebody in there, so we still tackled the fire and entered into the property wearing breathing apparatus.
"It's unclear (as) to the cause of the incident. Early indications would suggest that it is accidental."
