Joint palliative care unit to open at Antrim Area Hospital
The first specialist palliative care unit to be built in collaboration between a trust and a voluntary sector partner is being unveiled on Thursday.
The £5m unit at Antrim Area Hospital is jointly funded by the Northern Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Health Minister Edwin Poots will officially open the unit, which has 12 ensuite rooms and additional facilities for relatives.
Lorna Nevin said the trust had always wanted to develop the specialist unit.
"Patients and their families can access these specialist palliative care beds within their own geographical area for the first time," she said.
"This is a mutual vision of excellence. achieved by working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
"They brought great expertise with their design and experience of developing similar projects across the UK."
