Those living around or passing through Newtownards will see strange lights in the sky over the next few nights.

From Wednesday night, lasers will light up the night skies until Saturday and can be seen from miles around.

The art installation, called Global Rainbow, was created by American artist, Yvette Mattern, and will be visible for miles from dusk until midnight.

Part of the Cultural Olympiad, the event signals 100 days to go to the opening of theLondon 2012 Festival.

In Northern Ireland more than 14 major cultural events will take place between 21 June and 9 September.

The seven beams of light are meant to signify the colours of the rainbow and have already lit up skies in France, Germany and the United States of America.
