Murder inquiry launched in Cavan after house party

Gardai have said they are following a definite line of inquiry into the murder of a man following a party in Cavan.

22-year old Ciaran O'Connell died as a result of injuries sustained over the weekend.

Mr O'Connell had gone to the party at a house in his home village of Mullagh on St Patrick's Night, 17 March.

An altercation occurred in the early hours of the morning and he was assaulted.

Mr O'Connell was rushed to Cavan General Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he died.

Gardai began the murder investigation after they received the results of the post mortem examination.
