Derry attack link to 'organised fight'

Police believe an incident in which a 28-year-old man was beaten unconscious in Londonderry may be linked to an earlier attempt to organise a fight by teenagers.

Details of the weekend incident have just been released by police.

The man was kicked and punched by youths while walking on Strabane Old Road at about 01:00 BST on Saturday.

About an hour earlier police dispersed a large group of teenagers, both male and female, gathered at Corrody Road.

Police believe they had gathered for an organised fight arranged via BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) on mobile phones.

There were also reports of a number of cars being damaged on the Corrody Road where the youths had gathered.

Police want anyone with information, or anyone who had their vehicle damaged, to contact them.
