Shot man drove to Dublin's Cloverhill Prison for help

A 32-year-old man has driven to prison for help after he was injured in a shooting in Ballyfermot, Dublin.

He was shot in the arm and chest by a gunman as he sat in his car which was parked outside a pub on Sarsfield Road at about 23:10 BST on Tuesday.

Irish police said the injured man drove to nearby Cloverhill Prison to ask for assistance. He was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The gunman made his getaway in a car which was found burnt out in Inchicore.

A gun was also recovered from the scene.

Gardai said witnesses at the scene of the shooting described seeing a silver saloon car leaving the area.

The burnt out vehicle has been removed for forensic examination.
