Man fined for shouting abuse at police in Derry

A Londonderry man who shouted at police officers that he hoped Oglaigh na hEireann would get them, has been fined.

John Michael Carlin, 38, from Spencer Road pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly behaviour and obstructing police.

Carlin was ordered to pay £200 to the PSNI Benevolent fund.

The offences occurred in a fast food take away in the Waterside on the 4 April.

Carlin ignored requests from the officers as well as from other customers and takeaway staff to stop being verbally abusive.

When he was arrested he refused to give his date of birth and address to the officers.

District Judge Barney McElholm imposed a 5-month jail sentence suspended for 3 years as well as making a £200 compensation order.
