Customs raid illegal fuel station in Fermanagh

Officers arrested one man but he ran off before police arrived

An illegal fuel filling station on the Fermanagh border has been raided by Revenue and Customs officers.

A total of 8,000 litres of laundered fuel was discovered at the site on the Clones Road near Newtownbutler.

A man was arrested by customs officers but he ran off before police arrived. The raid took place on Thursday but details have just been released.

Officers said they seized a jeep and a flatbed trailer with a hidden storage tank containing 2,000 litres of diesel.

Two other storage tanks at the site contained a further 6,000 litres of fuel.
