Woman escapes injury after arson in Derry

A woman has escaped an arson attack on her home in Londonderry.

At about 04:50 BST on Saturday, a wheelie bin was set on fire against the front door of the house at Cuthbert Street.

Rubbish set on fire at the back door failed to properly ignite, and the woman managed to get to safety after being awoken by a smoke alarm.

The front door was badly burned, and the inside of the house was also damaged by smoke.

Police have appealed for information.
