Ballymurphy overnight alert 'elaborate hoax'

A suspicious object which forced residents to evacuate their homes overnight in west Belfast has been declared an elaborate hoax by police.

Army bomb experts and police were called to the driveway of a house in Springhill Rise, Ballymurphy, shortly after 02:00 BST on Thursday.

A number of people were put up at Whiterock Community Centre but have since been allowed to return home.

Others chose to remain at the back of their properties.
