Man in court after allegedly driving drunk with baby

A man has appeared at Dungannon Magistrates Court after allegedly holding a baby on his lap as he drove a car whilst drunk.

Glen Stronge, 37, from Clabby is charged with assault against a woman and causing unnecessary suffering to a child.

Mr Stronge is also charged with driving with excess alcohol, taking a car without consent, having no insurance or Driving Licence, and threatening to destroy property.

Mr Stronge was denied bail.

A Police Constable said all charges could be connected. He objected to bail on the grounds he felt Stronge could interfere with witnesses and has a criminal history of violence.

District Judge Bernie Kelly said, "My main concern is for the estranged wife and child. This man's previous record is frightening and he has the capacity to put the fear of God into someone. I am not prepared to run the risk of him contacting or intimidating any witnesses."

Mr Stronge was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates Court by video-link on 3 September.
