'Relic of True Cross' stolen from church in County Laois

A holy relic known as the 'Relic of the True Cross' has been stolen from a church in Killeshin.

The pewter container holding a 3mm piece of wood was presented to Holy Cross Church in 1822.

Irish police have appealed for help in recovering the relic, which was stolen sometime between 10:00 and 17:30 BST on 22 August 2012.

It is said to have no monetary value but is of spiritual value to to parishioners.
