Police save man and child from house fire in Lisburn

A man and a two-year-old child have been rescued from a house fire by a passing police patrol in Lisburn.

Two police officers noticed the fire as they passed the house on the Hillhall Road at about 02:30 BST on Sunday.

They forced their way inside and brought the child and a 48-year-old man to safety.

The occupants were examined at the scene by ambulance staff but they were not injured. The fire started accidentally.

The officers were praised by PSNI Lisburn Area Commander, Chief Inspector Darrin Jones.

He said: "I am convinced that the brave and swift actions of these two officers helped to avert what could have been a terrible situation."
