Toxic sludge dumped by roadside in County Monaghan

Four 1,000-litre containers of diesel sludge have been found dumped by the roadside in County Monaghan.

Two of the containers were dumped near the village of Annyalla and two in the townland of Drumleek close to Castleblaney.

Monaghan County Council said it brings to 54 the number of times the council has had to clean and dispose of toxic diesel sludge this year.

The substance is the remnants of colouring illegally removed from fuel.
