Crossmaglen illegal diesel plants dismantled

Three diesel plants in County Armagh, capable of producing over 20 million litres of illegal fuel a year, have been dismantled by customs officers.

Customs and PSNI officers raided two fuel laundering plants in Crossmaglen on Thursday night.

Tanks, chemicals and two vehicles along with a large quantity of toxic waste were removed.

A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with the seizure. A separate plant was uncovered on Wednesday.

This fuel laundering plant was also in Crossmaglen.

Running to full capacity, customs say the three plants had the potential to cause a loss of over £9m to the exchequer.

Laundered fuel is red or green diesel that is filtered through chemicals or acids to remove government markers that indicate that it has been rebated and is not for road use.
