Viable IED is defused in Blanchardstown

An Irish army bomb disposal team has defused a viable improvised explosive device (IED) in Blanchardstown, a suburb of Dublin.

The area around Fortlawn Avenue was cordoned off by police and local residents were evacuated.

The device was made safe and taken to a secure military base for further examination.

The remains of the device were handed over to police to assist with their investigations.
