Two cows and eight calves have been rescued by firefighters from a slurry pit in County Antrim.

A specialist team went to the farm at Moyan Road, Stranocum, at about 10:00 GMT on Tuesday.

They used breathing apparatus and monitors to measure gas as they rescued the animals from the pit which contained about 18in of slurry.

Fire group commander Paul Coyle said farmers should ensure that the slats are in place over slurry pits.

He said the animal area should be secured and the area well ventilated.
