Northern Ireland man dies in Australia road accident

A man from County Down has died in a road accident in Australia.

Ryan Doyle, 25, who was from Leitrim, outside Castlewellan, died in an accident in Perth. He had been working in Australia for a number of years.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has reported that Mr Doyle had been in a row with a taxi driver over a fare shortly before his death.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.

He has also been charged with failure to stop and render assistance and failure to report.

He is due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on 18 December.

The Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin is providing consular assistance to Mr Doyle's family.

Sinn Fein councillor Paul Gribben, who knows the family, said: "It's overall shock, right throughout the community.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time and also to his two brothers who are out in Australia with Ryan at this minute in time.

"It was a big blow to the area."
