Coleraine: Five arrested over suspected 'sham wedding'

Five people have been arrested on suspicion of staging a sham wedding ceremony in Coleraine.

The UK Border Agency said their officers interrupted a ceremony between a Sri Lankan woman and a British citizen at Coleraine Borough Council offices on Friday 23 November.

Achala Udeshika Bandara Wijekoon Mudiyanselage, 24, appeared in court on Monday charged with seeking to obtain leave to remain in the UK by deception.

She was remanded in custody.

She is due to re-appear at the same court via video link on Monday 3 December.

Three other people - a groom and two witnesses - were released on bail to appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court on 19 December.
