Man arrested in Newry in dissident republican terror investigation

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in Newry, County Down, by police investigating dissident republican terrorism.

He was detained on Thursday when PSNI detectives carried out searches in the Derrybeg and Main Avenue areas of the city.

A PSNI spokesperson said a number of items were taken away for examination following the operation.

The man was taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Newry and Mourne Area Commander, PSNI chief inspector Davy Beck, said: "I would like to thank the community for their support during these searches.

"You have asked us to tackle criminality in the local area and we will continue to do this to make Newry and Mourne a safer place to live."
