Cookstown house fire victim's name released

Police have released the name of a man who died in a fire at a house in County Tyrone on Saturday.

The fire, which happened in Cook Crescent, Cookstown, was reported to police shortly before 13:50 GMT.

Police said the man who died was 59-year-old David Major.

They said they were not treating the fire as suspicious at this time.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service station commander Alan Martin said on Saturday that when crews first arrived they were met with a "very intense" fire.

"Breathing apparatus was put on and fire crews were committed and quickly got the fire under control," he said.

"Unfortunately there was one male fatality."
