Incident at Bangor police officer's home was murder bid

Police have said that an incident at the home of a police officer in Bangor, County Down, was an attempt to murder him.

It happened in Springhill on Wednesday night, when the officer fired his personal protection weapon.

Two men, aged 45 and 52, arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

It is understood that the investigation is not linked to terrorist activity.

No-one was injured in the incident, but the officer received medical attention as a precaution.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 18:45 GMT and 19:45 GMT to contact them.
